During her eight years as First Lady, Michelle Obama racked up numerous accomplishments, and within the fashion community, she served as the ultimate representative for American style. As a private citizen, Obama is continuing her commitment to promoting the best in homegrown design talent. Making her first speaking appearance since the inauguration, Obama stepped out at the American Institute of Architects conference in Orlando, Florida, yesterday wearing a subtle color-blocked number from New York–based label Lafayette 148. With its soft ribbed knit and neutral shades of gray, white, and taupe, the look was understated and elegant. Pairing her dress with low-heeled strappy sandals, a series of delicate silver bracelets, and a pastel manicure, Obama looked regal and completely at ease.
